In the retail marketplace, the cachet of licensed brand merchandise has consistently buoyed consumer sales. In fact, a survey by the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) showed that global sales of licensed goods rose 4.4 percent from 2015 to 2016, significantly higher than the 2.9 percent growth rate for overall global retail sales. However, a more pertinent issue to brand owners and licensors is royalty revenue, which showed a yearover-year increase of just 1.3 percent.

WASHINGTON — As the April filing deadline approaches, the Internal Revenue Service today warned taxpayers to be alert to tax time phone scams where aggressive criminals pose as IRS agents in hopes of stealing money or personal information. Phone scams or “vishing” (voice phishing) continue to pose a major threat. The scam has cost thousands of people millions of dollars in recent years, and the IRS continues to see variations on these aggressive calling schemes.

On Thursday, November 2nd the House of Representatives released a draft of their tax reform legislation entitled “The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” as presented by the Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX). This legislation represents the largest proposed transformation of the U. S. tax code in more than thirty years.
